The Japanese man was buried in this shell hole for 1 1/2 days, pretending to be dead and ready with a live grenade just inches from his hand. After he knocked the grenade to the bottom of the shell hole, the troops thought he might have more bombs under his body. The prisoner says he won’t fight, so he gets the cigarette he asked for and is pulled out of the hole.
