Think about how strange and boring life would be if we didn’t have mugs and cups. We may have to drink coffee from large bowls or make tea with thimbles. Even though that sounds like a world we’d love to live in, we’re also glad we can have a hot drink without being bothered.

When you’re stressed, it’s surprising how much a cup of tea or coffee can help you relax. It gets you warm. It gets in the way. It gives you a reason to get up from your computer and look out the window for a few minutes. It’s like a mini-meditation session in a mug.

When my favorite cup broke in the fourth grade, I was so sad. I couldn’t calm down. Was my mug unique? Not at all. Was I the only one who had it? You bet! Reddit has had the “Mug Life” online community for almost a decade. The subreddit was started all the way back in late January 2013. It will soon be celebrating its 10th birthday.

That’s a big deal for any kind of online group. At the time of writing, there were over 356k people in the auxiliary. A third of a million people who use the internet is not a small number.
