Photographer Brad Walls has taken some of the most breathtaking aerial shots of ballet dancers performing. Four years ago, the photographer developed an interest in aerial fine art photography.
“The aim of the project was to disrupt traditional ballet photography,” he says in an interview with DeMilked. “Rather than focusing on photographing individual dancers, I wanted to photograph the ballet corp.” Photographs of ballet performances typically feature a single dancer striking an expressive expression. Ballet, on the other hand, is beautiful to me because of its subtlety and collaboration.
The elegance and delicacy of the dancers’ movements are well captured in Walls’ photographs. The dancers appear to glide through the air, their bodies moving in unison as they twist and twirl. His approach to creativity is methodical and thorough; he leaves nothing to chance. There is no greater reward for an artist than to see their work through from its inception to its final form. The feeling of accomplishment is palpable, he says.
