Boo is a 5-year-old Cornish cross rooster who loves to go on road trips, play the piano, watch TV, and hang out with chickens and cats, which are also his house pets. Boo likes a lot of things, but his favorite thing is to snuggle with his human mother, Mary Bowman.
Before he was adopted, Boo’s life was not always this good.He lived his first six months on a farm with a lot of other chickens, where he was treated more like a thing than a person. He was fed constantly, which is very unhealthy for the Cornish breed because they can’t control how much feed they eat on their own.
Mary first heard about Boo from a post in the Facebook group “Vegans with Chickens.” One of Mary’s friends had seen an ad on Craigslist from a man who didn’t want his “ugly” “mutant” chicken anymore. She knew what kind of bird Boo was because her friend Mary had just lost her beloved Cornish rooster, Julian, who looked just like Boo. Mary knew right away that she would help him.
When Mary came to get Boo, he was so big that he could hardly move. His huge size also affected how much oxygen he needed. His comb was turning purple, and he was taking deep breaths. Mary was very worried on the way home that he might not make it. Boo is still alive, which is a good thing.
