Tatsuya Tanaka, a Japanese artist, creates miniature dioramas displaying tiny people living in a large world. I can attest that painting 28 mm miniatures is not enjoyable. But Japanese artist Tatsuya Tanaka works with even smaller miniatures, which he collects in a calendar. “Everyone must have had these thoughts before,” said Tatsuya.
These tiny men and women interact with everyday objects in novel ways. On his website, Tatsuya Tanaka writes, “Broccoli and parsley may appear to be a forest of trees at times, and tree leaves floating on the surface of the water may appear to be small boats at other times,” writes Tatsuya Tanaka on his website. Incidents seen from a miniature perspective can inspire us with a plethora of amusing ideas.
“I wanted to express this way of thinking through photographs, so I started working on a ‘Miniature Calendar. The figures in these images are mostly diorama-style figures surrounded by everyday necessities. The photos on my website and SNS page are updated daily, just like a regular daily calendar, earning it the moniker “Miniature Calendar.”
More information about the artist and his previous work can be found here: “Artist specializing in miniatures and resemblances.” In 1981, he was born in Kumamoto Prefecture. In 2011, he began making a “Miniature Calendar,” a type of art in which he uses unusual items to recreate everyday objects in miniature form. He has been updating and uploading content to present online on a daily basis since then.
