If you’ve always wanted to live out your fairy tale, you might want to consider moving to the village of Giethoorn. Also known as the “Venice of the Netherlands”, this magical village founded around 1230 is the kind most people can only dream of…
It has no modern roads or transport, just channels. Well, and 176 bridges too. Tourists should leave their cars outside the village and get there on foot or by boat ( “whispering boats”). So you can probably imagine how quiet it is here Even the village website says “the loudest sound you normally hear is the chatter of a duck or the noise it makes”. It’s like it’s straight out of a storybook.
