This Hairdresser Makes His Clients Embrace Their Grey Roots Instead Of Covering Them Up-25 Pics

Everything began three years ago. A woman walked into the California salon of colorist Jack Martin and told him that she had been using at-home box color to change her gray hair to brown for years. But she didn’t want to worry about her hair color that often because she’s retired, loves the outdoors, and wanted to save as much time as possible.

Jack Martin took up the challenge, and they started talking about ideas right away. Eventually, the two of them decided that she should dye her hair silver. This would make her natural gray color look a little bit better, and the woman would have to go to salons less often. After everything was done, she was happy with the results. Martin did too. He was so happy with his work that he put a picture of the change on Instagram. People took note. The picture went viral, which brought Martin clients who wanted the same thing.

“People with naturally gray hair don’t come to me every few weeks, but two or three times a year,” Martin told Allure. The freedom that comes with such a beautiful look is appealing, and so are the feelings of empowerment that come with having gray hair naturally. Martin usually does all of these changes in a single ten-hour session.

He said on Instagram that the first step is to use a color extractor to get rid of any artificial color that is still there. Then, Martin bleaches the rest of the head while leaving the gray roots alone. This gets the hair ready for the new silver color.

The most important part comes next. Martin’s new color is based on the natural gray pattern of the hair. He even asks clients to come in with their roots three to four inches long so he can see what color their hair is naturally. He then puts the pattern back on the whole hairstyle.

Martin said, “Some clients have mostly salt and pepper in the front, and the back is darker, so I match that and add some dark.” Then, about ten hours later, his clients leave his salon happy with the way their natural colors look.
